Wular Lake
Wular Lake is the 2nd largest fresh-water lake in Asia, situated on the foothills of Haramuk Mountain. This beautiful lake lies between Bandipora and the Sopore district of Jammu and Kashmir. It is one of India’s Ramsar sites. River Jhelum is the main source of water for this lake. In its centre there is a small island constructed by Zain-ul-Abideen called the ‘Zaina Lank’. Wular Lake is also said to be a residue of Satisar Lake that existed in ancient times. This is the largest freshwater lake in India with floating vegetation, particularly water chestnut t(Known as Gear in Kashmiri), that provides an important source of revenue for the State Government and fodder for domestic livestock. The lake supports an important fishing industry and is a vital source of water for irrigation and domestic use.
Gurez
Located on the high Himalayas a beautiful valley of Kashmir namely ‘Gurez’ is situated about 86 kilometers from Bandipora and 123 kilometers from Srinagar. It has a great landscape bounded by lofty mountains. This valley is just the Feast for the eyes. One can enjoy the mesmerizing scenic beauty that includes the rapids of the Kishan Ganga river, wide flora, and fauna. A festival called Gurez festival is also celebrated at Dawar, Gurez.
Bangus
Bangus, which lies in the Kupwara region of north Kashmir, is covered with vegetation and may entice visitors from all over the world. It is known as Nowgam in the area and is 150 kilometres from Srinagar. It is located at an altitude of 10,000 feet. The Chowkibal Mountains border the northern side of Bangus Valley, and the Qazinag and Shamasabari Mountains border the western side. Bangus has historically been constrained by the violence and a lack of infrastructure. However, there have been initiatives in recent years to put the valley on the tourist map. Boarding and lodging facilities are still an issue after all these years of isolation.
Lolab Valley
It is situated 1 kilometer away from Kupwara district and about 120 km away from Srinagar district. Locally Known as ‘ Vaadi-e-Lolaab’, well known for its lakes, springs, orchids and greenery. Poets like Allama Iqbal refer this valley as ‘Land of Beauty’. There are many ancient springs, Lavnag and Guari are the two famous springs at Lolab valley. Fruit tress like apricot, apple, walnut, peach is common in the valley thus it also known as ‘Fruit bowl of Jammu and Kashmir’. It is well connected and well established by road to Srinagar which makes this an easy to reach place by bus or taxis.
Kokernag
Kokernag is very famous for its Botanical gardens, fresh water springs, and Trout fish Hatchery. It is mentioned in Ain Akbari written in the Medieval period that fresh water springs of Kokernag have curative properties like indigestion and satisfies both hunger and thirst. It lies about 54 kilometers from Pahalgam and 76 kilometers from Srinagar. This garden provides great scenic beauty for tourists.
Bootapathri
Botapathri is a beautiful meadow, located at the world-famous tourist place Gulmarg of Baramulla district. It lies 10 kilometers away from Gulmarg. It has a picturesque landscape and is surrounded by lush green forests. Horse riding is also famous here. Unlike Gulmarg, there are fast-flowing streams that add's more beauty to this place.
Verinag
Verinag is famous for its gardens and springs. Located at the foothills of the Pir Panjal Range of the Himalayas and about 78 kilometers from Srinagar. The construction of the octagonal base of the spring is started by Jahangir and completed during the reign of Shah Jahan. This octagonal spring has a crystal blue color and has many fishes in it. This place is covered with pine trees and evergreen plants.
Duksum
Daksum, a fascinating place has a unique landscape. There are hills covered with lush green trees and meadows serving cattle coming for pasture. Snowcapped mountains, green meadows, lush coniferous trees, and brooks enhance its serene beauty. It lies about 40 km away from Anantnag. Daksum also welcomes trekkers to the Sinthan top through mesmerizing meadows and valleys. This place is open for visitors throughout the year.
Doodhpatri
Doodhpathri or Valley of Milk is a beautiful hill station located in the Khansahib area of the Budgam district. The lush green grasses over the vast meadows and silver shinning streams running over the larger stone further increase its beauty. It has sloping grassy landscapes with a great diversity of multicolored flowers. Famous Tosamaiden lies in the west of Dhoodhpathri.
Aharbal Waterfalls
It is also referred as the ‘Niagara Falls’ of Kashmir. It is located at the Kulgam District of Jammu and Kashmir, 75 kilometers from Srinagar. For trekkers it is the starting point to Kounsarnag lake. Famous for its scenic beauty, rapids, wild flowers, gigantic trees, it becomes a well-known place to spend ideal time with families. People also come here in chilly winters in order to see the beautiful and stunning frozen waterfall.
